Caffarel Gianduia ballotin with a bow is a beautifully presented selection of Italian chocolates. Ballotin are the original Italian cocoa and hazelnut treats, and the golden pyramids are still one of the most popular chocolates in Italy today.
Made with Piedmont IGP hazelnuts and encased in velvety chocolate, these indulgent nibbles are best served with a strong espresso. Alternatively, place in the centre of the table as an easy after dinner dessert.
About Caffarel
Caffarel made the first ever Gianduia in 1865. It was the time of the Risorgimento, or ‘resurgence’, which led to the eventual unification of all Italy. The import of luxury goods was limited by the government, and this included cocoa. Caffarel came up with the idea of replacing some of the cocoa in their confectionery with local Piedmont hazelnuts, known as some of the finest hazelnuts in the world. They named their new creation after the comedia dell’arte character, Gianduja, who represents the Piedmont region.
